Retired age can be 40!
Mumbai, Nov 27
At a time when many Government employees are hoping for an extension of retirement age, Mr K C Chakrabarty, Chairman and Managing Director, Punjab National Bank, stunned the audience at BANCO 2007 by suggesting that the retirement age for bank employees should be brought down to 40. It was only after a while that the delegates realised that the PNB Chairman was indeed suggesting a de-link between the age of an employee and his ability to learn IT in banking. In response to a question of impact of age of operational and IT effectiveness, Mr Chakrabarti said: “Age cannot be the solution for not using IT,” adding that the retired bank employees were indeed more “efficient”. —
